How to get from Punta Arenas to Torres del Paine

Torres del Paine National Park is also called the eighth wonder of the world by many international portals and competitions.

It is also one of the main attractions if your plan is to do tourism in Chile, but many people wonder the same thing as how to get from Punta Arenas to Torres del Paine.

The city of Punta Arenas is the main gateway to the Magallanes region, it is the regional capital and main economic center of Southern Chilean Patagonia.

It has a population of 124,682 people according to the last Census carried out in Chile and its main activity is the livestock area and tourism.

If you come from the north of the continent, you must arrive by air to the city of Punta Arenas, specifically to the Carlos Ibáñez del Campo airport located 30 minutes by car from the city of Punta Arenas.

We recommend taking a couple of hours and visiting the beautiful city of Punta Arenas, it is very interesting and offers multiple points of interest such as the Mirador del Cerro la Cruz, the waterfront and the Strait of Magellan, the Monument to the Patagonian sheepdog or its striking cemetery.

How to get from Punta Arenas to Torres del Paine.

 

The only way to get from Punta Arenas to Torres del Paine is by land.

From the Punta Arenas Airport you have the possibility of taking the regular buses that travel every 2 hours to Puerto Natales (Previous reservation) otherwise you will have to go to the city and take the bus service from the terminal of each company (Buses Bus Sur and Buses Fernández).

In both cases, the tour lasts 3 hours 15 minutes to the Rodoviario terminal in Puerto Natales.

Another method is to travel by private vehicles, but it is quite expensive due to the distance from Punta Arenas to Puerto Natales (247 km through pampas, totally paved road).

The road from Punta Arenas is a desolate but very beautiful landscape that will take you through the Patagonian pampas.

If you are lucky you will be able to see more than one eagle or depending on the time of year, the movement of large numbers of Sheep that are moved by the baqueanos along with their dogs to the different stays to spend the winter.
